"Sometimes life gives you a chance to shake up your snow globe and see what comes of it."

Spa Director, Lake Austin Spa Resort

Jorinda Nardone has worked in spa for 18 years. While many call themselves an adventurer, Jorinda embodies the word. She was raised in the countryside of upstate New York, and recently departed Las Vegas to make a new home in Austin, Texas, not knowing a soul or ever having been there before.

“Growing up in the countryside of upstate New York taught me so much which I bring through to today. It’s a very different reality than I have now but the fundamental principles of growing up in the countryside and running a spa in Austin are the same. Preparing for a storm you didn’t know would come, but the potential of four-foot snow drifts and being stuck indoors for five days using backup generators for power opens your eyes. I know that what I do now has an impact on our future here and, whereas sometimes you need to be reactive, there is so much you can strategize for once you get a spa stabilized. It’s planting the seeds for our future in the spa as it takes approximately six months to show the fruits of change.”

Jorinda’s travels have taken her all over the country in recent years. “Fortunately, I have amazing friends who have invited me to see where they live or experience a vacation destination through their eyes. Opening my eyes and heart to locals and the overall experience really enhanced my time in each venue, thus now I feel that I don’t need to explore as much.

Moving from Las Vegas to Austin has been an adjustment as lifestyle, pace and overall atmosphere are in complete juxtaposition. I was blessed to live a large life in Las Vegas and really had an amazing time, but my desire for a contented life, similar to where I grew up, drew me to Austin.

By moving to Austin, never having been here or knowing anyone, I had a chance to rediscover myself and set my path in a different direction. I have found peace in my soul by hiking, watching the wildflowers bloom, awakening to birds singing and seeing a huge sky full of stars each night. Sometimes life gives you a chance to shake up your snow globe and see what comes of it. What I realized is that I had this peace within me always but I forgot until now how to reconnect myself.  So bloom where you are planted and know that life always has a way of working out.”
