Corporate Spa & Fitness Manager, North & Central Americas with AccorHotels

Daniel Poulin is the Corporate Spa & Fitness Manager, North & Central Americas with AccorHotels. Currently he resides in Toronto, Canada, and enjoys playing chef in the kitchen and running with his “very fit yet crazy” Jack Russell Terrier named Jacket. A 16-year veteran of the spa industry, Daniel’s career began in the fitness industry.

“I worked as an Aerobics Instructor teaching up to 10-20 classes per week for more than 15 years.  At the same time, I offered my services as a personal trainer and helped many clients over the years achieve their health and fitness goals.  Both my degrees in Kinesiology and in Nutrition have provided me with the knowledge and tools to bring credibility into an industry that is often deregulated and where everyone is an expert in their own way.

After graduating and moving to Vancouver, I managed the fitness and wellness operations of a large community center where, over seven years, I learned many valuable skills in finance, staff management and customer service. All those years working with other mentors in the fitness industry provided the necessary skills for my first assignment in the hotel and spa industry when I moved to China in 2000 to become the spa and health club manager in a five-star hotel.  Fortunately for this first assignment in unfamiliar territory, the spa was very small with a large fitness facility allowing me to learn the ropes of the hotel industry while being able to bring my expertise to the health club and learning about spa.

Two and a half years later, my career took me to Lebanon to head one of the nicest spas I have seen even to this day.  I was fortunate to be surrounded by a team of spa experts who inspired each other to bring that spa to be one of the most successful in the region.”

Daniel is also a frequent traveler, both for work and for play. “I live a busy life and I love it.  My work takes me all over North and Central America at any of the 85 properties in my portfolio.  Often when on the road, I add a day or two of vacation so I get to experience the destination as a ‘real guest,’ off duty.

As someone who has a few tricks up his sleeve in the kitchen, while traveling or even in my home town, I make sure that every meal experience is memorable and an occasion to learn something new; new food, new taste, new presentation or new technique.”
