General Manager, Biologique Recherche USA

Laura Gerchik is the General Manager of Biologique Recherche USA and resides in New York, New York. To relieve stress, she goes to the green to hit golf balls or to see an Opera or show. She loves using the app MindBody, because it pairs her with different fitness classes in any neighborhood and offers discounts on them. Laura’s favorite quote is the same one she used in her high school yearbook and she tries to live by it to this day: “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

“In the lovely words of Gertrude Stein, ‘America is my country, and Paris is my hometown.’ I was born in raised in New York, but my mom was raised in Paris. From a young age, I felt cultural ties to France and, in addition to my kindergarten through high school years at The Lycée Français de NY, I also spent a year studying abroad at The Université Paris IX – Dauphine. Another particularity is my professional background; I’ve always worked for French companies. I started my career working for the French Government in economic development work – at the Invest in France Agency- then moved to Paris where I worked in commercial real estate for Cushman & Wakefield, culminating in my current position with Biologique Recherche in New York.

While I was still living in Paris, Rupert Schmid, Pierre-Louis Delapalme and Dr. Allouche (the second generation of owners of Biologique Recherche) approached me with the opportunity to run the US operations. It was such an exciting opportunity to build upon the beautiful history the brand had established in the United States, and to redefine a strategy to drive growth and share our passion with others. I started in September of 2013, and though it feels like yesterday, I sometimes feel I’ve been here forever!

France has a rich culture and is known for many wonderful aspects of its society and heritage; however, its innovation and work ethic are not as well-known. A few years ago, a UBS survey showed that the French are the most productive people in the world! I’d like to think a bit of that rubbed off on me…”. Above all else, I feel privileged every day to work in a field with such wonderful people from so many backgrounds, and for a company that is still very much a family business. I’m amazed by the founder’s unique vision, which began 40 years ago and is still upheld to this day. Since the beginning, the brand has taken a hyper-customized approach to skincare using products that are concentrated with active ingredients, containing no artificial fragrances. This methodology is very prevalent in our industry today; the brand really was revolutionary for its time!
